iPhone App Review: SEAL Heroes Pirate Takedown

March 29th, 2010 by

Have you ever seen the news reports that say that another cargo vessel was taken over by pirates from Somalia? Have you ever thought about what you would do in that particular situation. Here’s your chance. SEAL Heroes Pirate Takedown is a game that focuses on the Somali pirates hostage situations. You are a SEAL that gets to take control of the situation with lethal persuasion. This game is a thrilling 2D, overhead style game that offers several scenarios to peak your interests through out the levels.

SEAL Heroes Pirate Takedown Pros:

This game offers an overhead style of game that is reminiscent of the days of old when the Nintendo and Super Nintendo dominated the market. Although it has similar graphics to the NES or SNES, it uses modern touch joysticks that give it the control that we have become accustom to in today’s gaming experience. They have several different weapon choices to chose from, which are represented by different game personalities. So, depending on your distance from the opponent or amount of opponents to neutralize, you can change characters on the fly. The game waists no time in creating a difficult level of game play. By level two you are searching in a seemingly endless maze of rooms that may or may not contain hostages or hostiles. Confusing? Maybe. Challenging? Definitely. One of the great features that keep this game interesting is the achievements that you can earn by finishing levels with certain restrictions or using certain players. Having this element in the game extends the games appeal considerably.

SEAL Heroes Pirate Takedown Cons:

I don’t have too much complaints about this game. It had many options for completing the game which kept game play interesting. The one thing that I noted as a con is that the games objectives don’t change in major ways which may cause the game to become mundane or boring before the end. Despite this, I enjoyed the game.

This game won had my attention in the beginning was a great buy. I recommend this game to teens and above. Something about shooting Somali Pirates doesn’t scream kid friendly.

– Has a very NES or SNES feel to the game
– Can change player midway through game play
– Extensive levels that keep you moving and shooting
– Achievements

– The same objectives gets repetitive

I give this game a 8/10 for an interesting concept and good hybrid between old graphics and modern controls.
