Vite, written by Giorgio Vasari, is a collection of artist biographies that contains artist biography and accounts of his fellowmen. Vite was first published in 1550. This was followed by an extended version on woodcuts in 1568. Vasari is credited of coining the term “Renaissance”. Many artists consider Vite as reference tool even in modern times. Vasari followed the Encyclopedia format of writing in Vite. Though Vasari was more favorable to Florentine artists, the book offers a glimpse into the art style followed during the Renaissance period. It is also a major of different artists and their works.
