Daring Raccoon is a curious mix between the puzzle and action genres that harkens back to the golden age of brick and motor arcades. The only difference is that Daring Raccoon fits onto your phone and you don’t need to waste quarter after quarter to play it. Structured in a very similar manner as the original Mario games (the ones where Donkey Kong was his biggest enemy), this games forces users to navigate one vertical level after another, collecting enough fruits and treasure jars to advance. The concept is simple but the game shines bright when it comes to the actual gameplay. Daring Raccoon’s digital thumb stick is very responsive and the jump button doesn’t lag – as is the case with many similar yet inferior games. Though it sports a ‘build it yourself’ mode where players can create and share their own custom designed challenges, truthfully the game has enough pre-designed levels in it’s campaign to hold any normal player’s attention for more than long enough. The levels themselves range from the relatively easy to the nearly impossible, something which a welcome return to form for arcade games currently on the mobile market – most of which have the dubious honor of either being too easy or too difficult through the entirety of their campaigns. Buying Daring Raccoon should prove an easy decision for anyone who wants to get an actual gaming experience out of their smart-phone.
