The tradition of sending greeting cards got a little easier and little fancier when the Internet came around. Rather than having to pick out and purchase a card, write a message, and drop it in the mailbox, you could log into any number of online services and send a greeting from the comfort of your own home. That can be especially handy for those last-minute birthdays you forget about, or those people at the office that you don’t really want to put that much thought into.

Now you can send animated, talking greeting cards from your iOS device with Egozoo Cards. Choose from a selection of free cards or purchase another, record a customized greeting, then share it via email, Facebook , or YouTube.

How It Works

When you open up the app you have a choice of cards to use. Swipe through the list to find more cards to purchase, or choose one of the free selections. There are cards available in several categories, such as holiday, “I’m Sorry”, get well cards… you get the picture.

On the card screen itself is where you record the greeting. Press the “pitch” option before recording, to put your voice into a higher pitch. You can also tap several places on the card to see various animations, turn the music on and off, etc.

Once the message is recorded you are presented with the final options: you can play the card to preview it, send via email, post to Facebook or YouTube, or trash the recording and start again.

Pros And Cons

The animation and music in the app are both done extraordinarily well. The single greatest thing about the app is how each screen has a main character, whose mouth moves in time with your recorded message. It’s an incredible effect and makes a simple electronic greeting card feel like so much more.

The app has only four free cards to choose from, but you can use these without limit. Emailing a card works well, though since it’s emailed as a QuickTime movie it can take a while to send depending on your connection speed. There are also several cards within the app to purchase, or you can purchase all cards at once for a heavily discounted price.
