iPhone App Review: iDistress
December 2nd, 2009 by zclarkiDistress
An emergency is a very confusing and scary time. The last thing that a person should be, in an emergency, is unprepared. iDistress is an application that helps a person in an emergency get help from the people they need the most. Their description says that this is an app that they “hope you never have to use” but in the case that you do need to use it, you are well prepared. When activated, iDistress calls the local emergency number, (wherever you are, world wide) and sends SMS and email to three people on your contact list that you choose. It sends a message and GPS of where you are located to those people.
iDistress Pros:
iDistress is an app that disperses information to all the right people at the same time notifying them that there is a n emergency situation. If you are walking alone around your neighborhood, have the app open and ready to simply slide to activate. The fact that it is as simple as, sliding to activate, makes this an invaluable app to have if you travel overseas where the emergency number is not always 911. It will get the emergency number based on your location. It’s impossible to make something too simple to use in any emergency situation.
iDistress Cons:
This app would benefit from being able to add as many people from your contact list as possible. The more that people know what is going on, the best chance that someone can get to you faster or know more information about your situation. This, in no way, can shadow the importance of having an app like this available to you.
You don’t always have a need for an app like this, but I would not like to be caught with out it. I will personally put this app on my wife’s device and have her use it when she is in an uncomfortable situation( so will I). You can never have enough security to protect a life and it is well worth the money paid.
Pros:
– Makes emergencies easy to report
– Provides security to an unsecured situation
– Easy to use
– Sends messages to three people form your contact list.
– Finds and contacts emergency contact information based on GPS
Cons:
– Only allows for three people to be notified of its activation and your whereabouts.
I happily give this iDistress a 9/10 for a great concept and good design.
