iPhone App Review: Japanese Diet Recipes

iPhone App Review: Japanese Diet Recipes

June 6th, 2012 by

The full name of this app is Japanese Diet Recipes – Low Carb, Easy Cooking. Anyone looking for low-carb, low fat, and very healthy recipes now have this new app from Infocom Corporation as a resource. It has all of the essential features: 50 recipes, a favorites list, even an email-able shopping list and a complete information center that offers tips and definitions to help you get the most out of your diet and these recipes.

How It Works

These recipes are based on the Yakuzen way of preparing meals, based on principles of Chinese medicine and herbology. Within the app is even a Constitution Check to help you determine your body type and condition, so you can choose the foods that will be most effective for your diet.

For instance, a recipe for Steak Salad says that the beef “supplements the Qi, aids digestive function, and enhances metabolism.” So if you need all that then you add this Steak Salad to your favorites and email yourself the shopping list before you head to the store. You can also share recipes on Twitter and Facebook, and each recipe features a carb count, calorie count, and even a timer built right into the app that you can use to track your cooking.

You can also search for recipes by ingredient, browse the list of photos, and even search for recipes by “Constitution Type”.

Pros And Cons

Japanese Diet Recipes is simple to use and has an attractive, clean interface. Browsing or searching for recipes is quick and simple, and tagging them for your favorites list makes finding them again easy. It’s especially welcome that the recipes in the app are specifically geared towards a diet that is lean, low-carb, and healthy. So many recipe apps just offer a huge hodge-podge of recipes with no discernible goal or purpose other than to show off how much food they can throw at you. This app is clear in its stated purpose and is a good resource for healthy food that is unique and easy to make.

My only quibble about the app is the “Ranking” feature: I just don’t know what that’s for. You can’t seem to rank recipes yourself or rate them in any way, so I’m not clear what the rankings mean or how the recipes are ranked the way they are. There is also a Recipe Store that currently states there are no new recipes available, but I imagine could eventually be populated with more recipes somewhere down the road.

Japanese Diet Recipes is an easy to use app full of healthy and tasty-looking recipes. It not only makes finding the perfect recipe simple but also makes shopping for it simple as well. It’s available now on sale for $0.99, so get it while it’s hot.
