iPhone App Review: Lemonade Stand
February 11th, 2009 by carpexnoctemFor every kid that has wanted to open a lemonade stand in order to buy that bicycle, or puppy, we now have Lemonade Stand the app! You play the role of an enterprising young kid who opens a lemonade stand in your neighborhood with the high hopes of making a large (in kids terms) profit.
At the start of every round, you are given a weather report that is variable from scorching heat waves, to heavy chances of rainfall. Based on these conditions, you must decide how many cups of lemonade to make, how many advertising signs to make, and how much to charge. You are then presented with a rundown of your profits/losses which aids you in your future decision making. At the end of 30 days, if you are in the black (profit), you win the game! It all sounds simple enough, but if you are like many businesspeople, you will keep re-playing the game in hopes of increasing your profits. This is where the pitfall of the game lies: Re-play value. After my third time running through the game it began to become redundant, and dry. As fun of a game as it is, ultimately Lemonade Stand is a one trick pony.
I highly recommend this game for younger audiences, who may benefit from the simple economic lessons that the game presents. Whereas the older crowd may find it a waste of time, and valuable icon space. At $0.99, you really can’t go wrong giving this game a chance.
