iPhone App Review: Listomatic

iPhone App Review: Listomatic

March 31st, 2012 by

Creating a list used to be as simple as writing a few items down on a piece of paper and crossing them off once you were done. Listomatic from Mondomorphic attempts to recreate the simplicity of creating a list on your iPhone, whether it’s a checklist of things you need to get done or a list of information that you want to keep handy. You can even add photos to your Listomatic lists and email them right from within the app.

How It Works

The app works very simply: you create new lists with the “plus” button on the main screen, then add items to that list. When you create a list you can choose for it to be an information list or a checklist, though the only difference seems to be the presence of a check box on the checklist items. When editing an item in a list you can include a name for the item and some notes, as well as having the ability to add a picture to the description. You can email each list from within the app, and it creates a nicely-formatted new email that includes all items, their descriptions, and any photos.

Pros And Cons

Listomatic looks and functions great. It has a slick icon and interface that responds well to your input, and its layout and features are designed well for ease of use. The photo feature is handy for adding a picture of something to a list, especially if you plan on emailing that list out to someone, but you can only add one photo to each item.

The App Store description states that Listomatic would be ideal for storing passwords and other sensitive information, but the current version does not have any encryption or password protection. Storing a password using Listomatic would be no safer than storing your password on Apple’s included Notepad app, and I would currently not reccommend it.

The only feature I would like to see added is the ability to quickly add items to a checklist with a “Save + Add New” button. It would save the step of dropping out to the list screen after adding each new item, as when you’re creating a checklist you are usually adding multiple items at a time. The app could also use a form of syncing through iCloud or Dropbox, so that lists can travel across devices.

Listomatic is an attractive, easy to use app for making storing information and making checklists of all kinds. Until the developers add some sort of encryption and password protection I would ignore their suggestion that you store passwords in the app, but in the meantime it is still a great list app.
