Description
Nowadays common Japanese names (Jinmei) usually consist of a family name (surname), followed by a given name.
Modern Japanese names’ structure is similar to that of many other cultures. All Japanese people have one surname and one given name with no middle name.
Japanese names are often built individually from the existing characters, thus there’s a great amount of unique names in the country; while the surnames are more traditional, most of them derived from toponyms. In Japanese, there is much greater variety of given names in comparison to surnames. Male and female names have different characteristic elements and structure. Reading Japanese names is one of the most difficult parts in this language.
Very often people have problems choosing a name or a nick suitable for them – we are ready to help you and offer to use our Japanese translator (a transliteration table of English letters into Japanese sounds, e.g. Linda – Zukitoteka, Bob – zumozu, Kris – Meshikiari).
